Bored in the House, I’m in the House Bored

It can’t just be me but quarantine is getting to me. If I did not have access to the internet right now I am not sure I would make it through this pandemic. I honestly can not wait till the weather gets warmer and I can spend most of my time outside but for now I’ve needed to find other ways of passing my time. I have begun to deep dive into Youtube channels, reddit threads, soundcloud mixes and old computer games I played as a child. Here are a collection of what is occupying me right now.

Corona Workouts for Everyone

Some may say ewww working out but I know that many people are begun to go stir crazy from being quarantined for so long. I personally am so sad that I can no longer go to my fitness classes at Orangetheory throughout my week. BUT THERE IS A SOLUTION! Most people think you have to go to the gym to get a good workout in but that’s not true. My favorite fitness organization now posted daily workout to youtube for anyone to use. That’s right Orangetheory has made its workouts free to everyone during these hard times!

There are multiple plays to access these free workouts.

Here is a taste of one of my favorite at home workouts with Orange Theory

The music that is played during the videos is not very good for working out though so try to find some other songs to listen to during the workout to keep hype. Here are some long mixes you could try.

2020 Seniors Feels, F*ck Corona

What does it feel like to be a college senior in 2020 during COVID?

It is as if everything I have worked towards has been ripped away from me and thrown in the trash. Over the past four years I have worked my ass off to earn my bachelors of science with high honors. As an anxiety ridden person I put extra stress on myself to get the grades I knew I was capable of. There were many nights where I questioned if my hard work was going to payoff but I always told myself it would all be worth it when I got to walk across the stage knowing I did my best. Then COVID decided to come in and take that all away from me. I no longer get to physically graduate or experience senior week with all my fellow seniors. I had looked forward to these moments all four years of school and now they just aren’t happening and there is nothing I can do to change that. It is just unfair and honestly bullshit. I understand why I no longer get these experiences but I am just heartbroken. Most seniors won’t admit it but I will, I absolutely hate it when people say sorry to me or say we can celebrate your achievements later after corona isn’t as bad. So many people have told me it is going to be okay and that I should be grateful to even graduate in the first place. But, the people saying those things haven’t had such large life experiences taken away from them. No one can truly understand how it feels unless it is happening to them. In the end I just feel like I will never get that last moment of college where I feel like I achieved my goals which is just depressing.

For other seniors reading this, this youtube video may help some fo you become a little more okay with how you are feeling.

My Netflix Watches

Bored and out of shows or movies to watch during quarantine? Well you have come to the right place! Even before COVID, I was an avid netflix watcher and now that I have been stuck in quarantine I have had time to watch much much more. The show that I have been the most addicted to is Community. Community first aired in 2009 so it is an older television series but it was recently added to Netflix. The best part of this show is that it has 6 seasons each consisting of around 25 episodes. It will take you forever and ever to finish even if you binge watch an entire season like me sometimes. If you have ever watched Parks and Rec of the Office this is a great alternative show to watch for sure!

Besides Community I have also watched the entire first season of Outer Banks. Outer Banks is brand new to netflix and has been a topic of conversation for a lot of younger people. So many of my friends were discussing it and I had to watch it. I was skeptical at first but the show turned out to be pretty damn good. There is only one season out though so if you finish it quickly like me you will be waiting a LONG time for the next season to find out what happens.

A show that I just released a second season during quarantine that I had already watched the first season was Legacies. Fair warning you will only like this show if you are into supernatural or fantasy. Ever since I was little I always thought greek mythology or supernatural topics were so interesting. I have binge watched the show Vampire Diaries in high school. Legacies is almost the second set of the Vampire Diaries as some of its characters are directly connected.

Here is a list of the shows I discussed and other shows I watched…

Oldies but Goodies

  • Community
  • Parks and Rec
  • New Girl
  • Vampire Diaries

New to Netflix

  • Outer Banks
  • The Half of It

Teen Drama

  • Legacies  (Supernatural/Fantasy)
  • On My Block

All of these can be found on Netflix

Rob Gronkowski Returns…Sorta

Yes, Rob Gronkowski will be coming out of retirement to play in the NFL once again. Without any other information, New England Patriots fans would be so excited. Specifically because Patriots fans have already had the devastating news thrown at them of Tom Brady deciding to play for Tampa Buccaneers next season. BUT low and behold, Rob Gronkowski has also decided to betray the Patriots nations and follow Tom Brady to Tampa. Ever since this news has come out there has been so many different reactions. Some would say this is a good thing for the Patriots because they are receiving a 4th round pick for a player that was currently out of commission for them. Others are just so sad to see their favorites leave them. Lastly, my personal favorite is the production of memes and digital media images on the topic.

New England fans are not the only ones who must feel betrayed though. What about Julian Edelman?? Brady, Gronk and Edelman were an unstoppable trio back in the day. I hope Edelman is ready to beat his two friends in this next season.

At the end of the day the Patriots nation will definitely miss both Brady and Gronk but something even better could come out of this. Having 5 picks between number 84 and 150 in the 2020 draft could result in something amazing in the long run

Jenna Marbles – Hair Bubbles?

Who is Jenna Marbles you ask? Jenna Marbles is one of the funniest and odd American YouTube personalities this earth has been graced with.

I can’t speak for everyone but as a child I was obsessed with BUBBLES. Bubble machines were a necessity when playing outside. I can compare myself to Bubbles the fish from Finding Nemo. If you are having a hard time remember who Bubbles was here is a picture from the iconic bubble secen.

Now that I’ve got sufficiently went on a tangent about my own obsession with bubbles let’s talk about what Jenna Marbles has done in one of her latests videos. Jenna Marbles sometimes gets inspiration from here followers and this time this is exactly what she did!

Jenna goes through the process of making her hair produce the shape of a circular bubble wand with the help of a sports racket. After successfully making the hair bubble wand Jenna then begins to place her haid is a tray of bubble juice. Struggling over and over again, Jenna gets so close to producing a bubble but never succeeds. As a viewer I watched the entire video hoping, praying Id see her make a bubble with her hair. Even with failure, Jenna Marbles gets over 3 millions views purely because it’s entertaining. Watching someone do bizzare activities is can be hilarious, intriguing and thought provoking.

I am a proud Jenna Marbles follower if I do say so myself.

The Web I Want – Analysis

As mentioned in my previous blog post, I will now be analyzing two specific sections of Jeremy Baileys online performance in The Web I Want. Throughout the entire performance, Jeremy Bailey is augmenting his own body by placing virtual three dimensional objects over his chest. Keep in mind these images are in a fixed position the entire performance. The first half of his performance involves virtual objects that do not move or change. Then about half way through, the objects begin to become more complex first starting with the virtual advertisements. The virtual advertisement incorporates two computer screens floating on Jeremys chest but within the computer screens are two different advertisements. One screen is playing an iphone advertisement while the second screen is showing a clothing advertisement.

Further into the performance the virtual objects become even more complex than moving videos within them. Jeremy Bailey adds the addition of movement of the object based on the sound of music. Two circles are floating on his chest and as the music plays the circles change in size with the beat of the music.

Let’s talk more specifically about how the use of virtual three dimensional objects with this performance creates an emotive effect. First off for those who do not know an emotive effect is described as having an emotional impact on an audience. Jeremy’s usage of virtual objects floating over his nude chest definitely makes the audience feel a certain type of way. The emotional response could go one of two ways though. The audience is likely to be so confused that they want to know what the point of the performance is or the audience will just think it’s something ridiculous. In order to get a different perspective than my own, I had an acquaintance watch the section of the performance that incorporates the music circles moving to the beat. Their response was as follows

“What the fuck is this for. I think this was someone trying to be funny but clearly they are not. This person seems disturbed. But to be honest it is so weird and fucked up that I wanted to see what else would happen.”

Clearly this person viewed the performance as ridiculous and pointless but felt like they needed to know what else the performance would involve or else they might miss out. Overally, the artist Jeremy Baileys usage of virtual objects to augment his own body does have an emotive effect on the audience even if it just is emotional confusion. This emotional confusion results in the audience become so curious they pay attention longer. By making the audience pay attention longer, the online performance could be considered successful in some sense. Some online performances don’t even get the audience’s attention at all.

The Web I Want – Jeremy Bailey Review

For some background knowledge, Jeremy Bailey is a famous media artist on YouTube. He creates and demonstrates almost innovative ways of using digital media as an art form to express a topic of conversation. I have chosen to focus on one specific online performance of Jeremy Baileys for this review because I feel as though it deals with a very important discussion. The Web I Want performance explores body objectification online through digital augmentation of Jeremy Bailey’s own body. Body objectification as well as body shaming are huge problems in the world today. As a woman I have been both objectified and shamed. To make it clear, I am also aware that men can also be objectified or shamed just as much as a woman. But, let’s get back to how Jeremy Bailey has presented this issue of body objectification in a new light, digital media. When I first began watching his performance I had many thoughts revolving around…

What the fuck is this guy doing? He’s low key creepy

Why the hell is he basically naked?

A man with floating digital images over his chest just seems inappropriate

Does this guy want boobs? It would look less weird if there wasn’t two of each image

I will admit though as I was judging the performance I was intrigued in knowing what image would appear next on Jeremy’s body. But even though I watched the whole performance, I had no idea what the point of his performance was the first time I watched it. It wasn’t until I read the description of the video I understood his message. After realizing he had a positive influence on augmenting his body I had to watch the performance again. This time I watched the performance from a different point of view almost, a point of view where he was no longer creepy but informative. I found it interesting that Jeremy realized that he was going to have to objectify himself in order to inform the world on body objectification. He is proving his point that people are more likely to pay attention to you if they find you intriguing to look at. This online performance makes one think about how one’s self looks at the world. It also made me question some things..

Body objectification deals with both objectifying in the sense of attractiveness as well as

unattractiveness. Which would distract someone more?

Would this performance be taken differently if a woman had done it instead of Jeremy

Bailey?

Body objectification is such an interesting but difficult topic to discuss. I think that Jeremy Bailey did an OKAY (ehhhh) job of exploring the topic in an irregular way. In the end Jeremy Bailey had something to say and this was his way of saying it to the world.

Weirdest Way to Print Photoshop

There is a new trend that has emerged of sending a friend or significant other a customized potato. These customized potatoes can have written messages as well as images printed onto them. A person could photoshop anything they wanted to and have it appear on one of these potatoes. In the photo above you can see two examples of customized potatoes. Once a potato is created it then is mailed to the person of your choice.

State of the Excesive Applause

Disclaimer: this post will not actually discuss the content of the State fo the Union.

Why does everyone in the room during the State of the Union have to stand up and applaud the President after basically every sentence he says? DOES NOT MAKE SENSE! Standing up and sitting down every two seconds for this period of time could be considered a workout. Also if they waited till the end or half way through the speech the State of the Union would not take as long. All the applauding just seems unnecessary and extra.
